How it started and why?

Collectable toys started out in 1959 with figurines such as Barbie, superhero action figures, made in different variations for consumers to collect. These toys were mainly used for children's toys. Many of the action figures made for being collected were bought by many fans of different franchises. This includes Star Wars, Marvel figures as well as comic book figurines. This heightened the crave for collectors to fill their shelves up with more and more figurines!

Why it became art?

Through the years, collectable art became more and more popular with expensive name brands such as Bape, Andy Warhol's bears, KAWS and many more brands. This created an internet trend of collecting these figurines as art rather than functionality. Many people began their own collectable brands but priced them at a much lower rate than the high end brands to target collectors from any age. These artists would even be inclined to create art on their boxes as well as hand designed cards for collectors to keep. This became an art due to the unique fun style of each artist as well as their thematic boxes!

Popularity and Importance!

The popularity collectable toys gained was immense through the years from when it first developed. This was important in the art world as it gave artists a chance to created and design characters through their own artistic style and sell them in a public space. This led to many other artists creating their own depictions of these types of art bringing forth a variety  of different styles for people to enjoy and inspire others to create their own!
